How to make your way from a Good team to a Good Leader?

Good leadership has always been defined by how it helps people to grow and be at their best. In a similar way, a good team succeeds when members in it seek for collaborative success instead of individual greatness. Just like a holistic process, a good leader is born from a good team that sustains itself on the basis of a few important attributes.

Let’s break it down!

Create a Comfortable and Honest Space

Try to understand who you are working with, get to know them, and create a space that would make everyone to be honest and comfortable. A team environment with open communication lets others communicate their weaknesses and hence as team everyone can move forward to help along. Remember that the progress of the weakest link in the group is what measures the success of a good team.

Know your Strengths

No matter how much we would deny, there is always a certain amount of positive competency within teams. Try to identify what skill set you can bring forth for the benefit of all and be confident about it. A good team identifies gaps and compliments each other to mutually strengthen the end results.

Maintain a Collaborative Approach

If you are a perfectionist and like to do everything yourself then you might not be an ideal team member. A good team player takes things together with everyone and solves challenges by effectively brainstorming with a teammate. Isolating yourself will only make your team members think that you don’t trust their skill set well enough. A good leader also similarly has to make sure that everyone is aligned, focused, and are on the right track to achieve their individual and team goals.

Be Empathetic

Make sure you provide room for empathy to your fellow team members. Always be accommodating and try to occasionally ask them if everything was going okay. If they are having any problems, assure them, and comfort them. Being empathetic makes a team more compatible and reliable. Sensitivity and realizing the emotional capacities of members is also what drives you to eventually become an effective leader.

Accepting your Mistakes is only Correct

It is okay to not know something or make mistakes. Everyone is learning and there are chances that there will be some things that can go wrong. Accepting your mistake and remaining accountable creates trust and transparency. It helps you learn and saves your team from greater risks. A leader also makes mistakes and accepting the loopholes only makes him/her better at decisions.

Lastly, be a Good  Leader

A good leader is an amalgamation of all the traits that remain in a good team but with greater responsibility. A good leader needs to constantly remain consistent and prove to be a benchmark for all members. One should be a good mentor before being a boss and ensure that processes are focused on directions rather than orders. A good leader always remains solution-oriented and is more focused on the impact his actions would prove to have.

So are you set to start your leadership journey?
